“This is the third time we have used His Workmanship. So far we’ve had great crews on our property. They have weeded out hosta beds, dug up buckthorn, planted several shrubs and installed around 70 bags of mulch. I have referred them to my friends and plan to have them come back next summer for more work. I would highly recommend His Workmanship.” – Linda

I have used this service three times now and been very pleased each time. It's easy to set up, reliable, and responsive. The guys who show up to do the work are the same way. They listen to what you say and do a great, thorough job. They may be a little on the pricey side, but with the market the way it is today, they're well worth it!
Came to my yard removed all my leaves worth every penny! When I forgot to leave the leaf bags on the deck, they went out and bought some and still finished the job in the same amount of time!
The crew showed up on time and got to work right away. They did everything we wanted and were very thorough. We are very pleased with their work and will be bringing them back in the Spring to do our winter fall leaves.
I've had several projects completed by His Workmanship. The crews are on time, work hard, and do a great job. I highly recommend them.
Pay by the hour, hard workers, clear prices
These young people were able to plant the bed of irises in the dark! This time of year the 3 hours after 4pm are very demanding!
We used the services of His Workmanship twice in the last month. Two different projects that we did not want to handle by ourselves. The young men are courteous and very hard working. I recommend His Workmanship wholeheartedly!
We had a great experience with His Workmanship! Brandon and Nate were professional and worked hard. We are very pleased. Highly recommend!
On time and very professional. The young men got the job done. I needed a lot of leaves raked and bagged and that is exactly what they did. They guys could not have done a better job. Am very pleased. I would certainly use His Workmanship again.
(Attached photos include one “before” photo and three “after” photos)His Worksmanship was a huge relief for us.We live in the Greater Lansing area, and we recruited a 4-person, 8 hour team from Grand Rapids strictly for weeding and gutting several areas on our property that had been overtaken with overgrowth and debris. Given the great price, we kept expectations low and were just glad to be able to budget for this.Pisith and his team quickly went above and beyond all possible expectations, gutting weeds down to the root, moving debris out of affected beds, and offering to dig out heavy, rotted wood posts and edging that were no longer needed. At the end of the day, because the crew finished slightly early, I requested a few extra projects (picking up and moving tree limbs that had fallen, removing small plastic ponds and filling the holes afterwards, etc.), and the team enthusiastically agreed and efficiently got each task done. No project was left unfinished.Since this house is a family house, and the house is currently in a transition into our generation, this project meant so much to us. We now have a fresh start with our home, and we’ll be able to truly make it “home.” We are so thankful for a spectacular job done by His Worksmanship. THANK YOU!
The guys were good workers and well mannered. Price was fair.
Always perfect work!! Great guys, on time & hard workers! Will hire a lot more, when projects come up!
Great communication, and even better work! This team knocked out all of our needs faster than expected. Will definitely look to hire for future projects.
So helpful with garden tasks I couldn’t get to
Really fine young men. Listened carefully, executed beautifully, respectful of my property and myself. Highly recommend!
They worked hard and met our expectations. We will hire them again in the future
Very nice, respectful and efficient guys!!
Used His Workmanship for the first time to trim a dozen large shrubs that were very overgrown, plus some weeding and leaf pickup. Great communication setting up the appointment. The crew arrived on time, worked quickly and efficiently, and clarified my preferences throughout. Will use them again.
This company makes moving so much less stressful and the cost is extremely reasonable. With their help all the anxiety about the move was basically gone. Also I like the Christian values Everyone I talked to and worked with were full of kindness and patience and hard working.
Great guys, hard working and well worth it!

Frequently Asked Questions

Most hedge trimming companies charge $40 – $50 per hour. Very rarely will a landscape company give a flat fee with an on-site estimate for such a small project like trimming bushes. Some lawn service companies will have hedge trimming as an add-on to their lawn mowing services.
Overgrown bushes can be a major eyesore. Regular shrub care will keep them looking nice. Think of it like giving your bushes a haircut. It’s not pleasant to look at someone having a bad hair day, is it? Moreover, if you don’t trim off dead branches, they could become a safety hazard because dead branches are more likely to dislodge from the bush. During a windy storm, they could get torn off and damage your property.
Lilac should be pruned right after they are done flowering in the spring. You will want to avoid trimming them in the summer or fall. The reason is because that may ruin the flowers for next year since lilacs grow the buds for the following year after the current year’s flowers have fallen off. This applies to both big and small lilac bushes. To learn more, read our recent blog post titled When and How to Prune Lilac Bushes.
Most lilacs can grow to be about 30 feet tall without any pruning, but some smaller ones only get to half that height. Lilac bushes will reach excessively tall heights unless they get pruned on a regular basis. Therefore, the ideal amount of pruning that should be done is 5-7 inches, depending on how overgrown they are.
There are 4 different classifications of hydrangea: Annabelle, PeeGee, Oakleaf, Mophead. The best time to prune Annabelle and PeeGee is during the fall, so anytime between September and November. You can trim them down low to the ground because they will grow back with new buds on the new wood every spring. Since Oakleaf and Mophead produce buds on old wood, the best time to prune them is after their summer bloom, so from mid-June to late-July.
You can start cutting back roses once the forsythias have started blooming, which is in early spring so anytime in April. But don’t overdo it because major pruning should wait until late summer or early winter. That’s when roses will begin the dormant process. As the flowers fade, you can extend the rose blooming period by deadheading them accordingly.
You will need a pair of bypass pruning shears for pruning roses. First, remove the leaves so you can clearly see the rose bush stems. Second, clip off the dead wood. Brown is dead; green is alive. Third, remove thin growth with weak stems. Fourth, take out any branches that cross over one another. Crossing branches can rub together causing disease or damage.
The two options to choose from are handheld shears or electric hedge trimmers. The benefit of shears is that you get precision. You can give a detailed manicure to each of your bushes. The drawback is that this will take a long time if you have many hedges to cut. The downside for an electric hedge clipper is that you aren’t able to give as much attention to detail, so the hedges can look sloppy from close up. However, it will get done much sooner and nobody will be able to notice the small mistakes from far away. For more information, check out our blog The Ultimate Guide to Trimming Bushes.
If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, you should hire a hedge trimming company to do it for you. You should try to get a ballpark estimate on the total cost for your trimming project. In order to get a quote, you’ll likely need to provide information about the number of bushes, how tall they are and how overgrown they’ve become. Google their company name to make sure they have good reviews online. His Workmanship offers professional hedge trimming services. Click here to get a free estimate.

My name is Daniel and this is my first summer helping residential homeowners through His Workmanship. I used to attend the same church as the owner so that is how I learned about this amazing opportunity. To be honest, I really enjoy finding customers through a referral company that so clearly reflects the Christian faith in their business model. The cherry on top is that a $20 discount is offered to everyone who reads a certain passage in the Bible.
