“This is the third time we have used His Workmanship. So far we’ve had great crews on our property. They have weeded out hosta beds, dug up buckthorn, planted several shrubs and installed around 70 bags of mulch. I have referred them to my friends and plan to have them come back next summer for more work. I would highly recommend His Workmanship.” – Linda

This company is professional and very prompt to respond and super nice guys as well. They did a great job with weeding and edging our beds. Will be doing business with them again!
The workers arrived promptly & immediately began what I had hired them to do. They worked efficiently & cleaned up after they were done.
The guys did an excellent job and finished weeding and mulching faster than expected! Would 100% hire again. 🙂
Cleanup of last year’s garden and completion of all the new planting accomplished in one visit by two very nice people. I strongly recommend this service.
Great work and great young men!! Highly recommend!
Getting appt set up was very easy. Workers were very friendly, helpful and worked fast. Did a very good job!
The guys had great communication, showed up on time, were friendly and completed the task. I highly recommend His Workmanship
The crew made quick work of cleaning up my over-grown yard. From the first step to completion, the His Workmanship team was responsive, professional, and efficient. I will definitely use them again and happily recommend them.
The team was friendly & thorough. They arrived on time and were very professional. Thanks for doing a great job weeding our overgrown flower beds.
I use His Workmanship in the Village of Summit. My projects have been to weed my many planting beds on a large property. The crew requires some training and direction by me; they are not landscape professionals. Once that was done, the crew (2) were hard working, professional and completed my requested work.Projects have been a bit difficult to schedule based on my calendar and His Workmanship crew availability but so far we have been able to work that out.I plan on continuing to use His Workmanship. They have a unique service that allows me, the customer, to define a project scope, like weeding, that can be difficult to find providers - and all at a reasonable cost.
Very professional - hard workers. Well worth the money.
Both young men did an excellent job. This is my third experience with His Workmanship and each experience has been outstanding. 2024 I again hired His Workmanship, and as always I am very pleased with the outcome.
I had a garden that was being taken over with weeds. Sam and Seth were exceptional. In the course of 6 hours they pulled the weeds and cleared away debris to leave a beautifully clean garden. They could not have been nicer or more respectful. They voluntarily put all my tools and supplies back in the shed. The big surprise was how compactly they bagged the weeds and debris so that there was room left in the trash bin for my household garbage. That was a first. They are the first service or contractor team I have had that I did not have to rearrange the trash bin afterward to add my normal trash. I will definitely use His Workmanship again.
The crew arrived right on time. They conscientiously worked for the five hours they were hired for..if they had questions they didn't hesitate to knock on the door and ask. It was a very pleasant work experience.I hired a crew for a second time..this time for three hours. They completed all that was asked of them. Both crews were very nice to work with and very respectful.
Workers showed up on time with their own rakes and shovels. They worked consistently and were good at making sure they were meeting our expectations. I would definitely use this group again.
Eric & his crew have been amazing to work with! I’m so glad I found, His Workmanship, while on my landscaping hunt. I love the fact that I was able to purchase my own materials (and skip the “middle man”) yet still have the job completed by people who know what they’re doing. I will definitely be a return customer!Another spring project with Chase & Ty!Great experience again this year!
The workers arrived on time, worked efficiently and finished on time .they cleaned up the driveway and grassy areas. They were polite and well worth the expense.
What a wonderful experience. Our crew was prompt and hard working. Communication was terrific working through all the areas that needed attention. I would highly recommend this service.
They were great! Got everything done early and even asked if there was more they could do! Would use them again!
The crew was very pleasant, polite, willing to work hard, and very thorough. I would highly recommend them!

Frequently Asked Questions

Most hedge trimming companies charge $40 – $50 per hour. Very rarely will a landscape company give a flat fee with an on-site estimate for such a small project like trimming bushes. Some lawn service companies will have hedge trimming as an add-on to their lawn mowing services.
Overgrown bushes can be a major eyesore. Regular shrub care will keep them looking nice. Think of it like giving your bushes a haircut. It’s not pleasant to look at someone having a bad hair day, is it? Moreover, if you don’t trim off dead branches, they could become a safety hazard because dead branches are more likely to dislodge from the bush. During a windy storm, they could get torn off and damage your property.
Lilac should be pruned right after they are done flowering in the spring. You will want to avoid trimming them in the summer or fall. The reason is because that may ruin the flowers for next year since lilacs grow the buds for the following year after the current year’s flowers have fallen off. This applies to both big and small lilac bushes. To learn more, read our recent blog post titled When and How to Prune Lilac Bushes.
Most lilacs can grow to be about 30 feet tall without any pruning, but some smaller ones only get to half that height. Lilac bushes will reach excessively tall heights unless they get pruned on a regular basis. Therefore, the ideal amount of pruning that should be done is 5-7 inches, depending on how overgrown they are.
There are 4 different classifications of hydrangea: Annabelle, PeeGee, Oakleaf, Mophead. The best time to prune Annabelle and PeeGee is during the fall, so anytime between September and November. You can trim them down low to the ground because they will grow back with new buds on the new wood every spring. Since Oakleaf and Mophead produce buds on old wood, the best time to prune them is after their summer bloom, so from mid-June to late-July.
You can start cutting back roses once the forsythias have started blooming, which is in early spring so anytime in April. But don’t overdo it because major pruning should wait until late summer or early winter. That’s when roses will begin the dormant process. As the flowers fade, you can extend the rose blooming period by deadheading them accordingly.
You will need a pair of bypass pruning shears for pruning roses. First, remove the leaves so you can clearly see the rose bush stems. Second, clip off the dead wood. Brown is dead; green is alive. Third, remove thin growth with weak stems. Fourth, take out any branches that cross over one another. Crossing branches can rub together causing disease or damage.
The two options to choose from are handheld shears or electric hedge trimmers. The benefit of shears is that you get precision. You can give a detailed manicure to each of your bushes. The drawback is that this will take a long time if you have many hedges to cut. The downside for an electric hedge clipper is that you aren’t able to give as much attention to detail, so the hedges can look sloppy from close up. However, it will get done much sooner and nobody will be able to notice the small mistakes from far away. For more information, check out our blog The Ultimate Guide to Trimming Bushes.
If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, you should hire a hedge trimming company to do it for you. You should try to get a ballpark estimate on the total cost for your trimming project. In order to get a quote, you’ll likely need to provide information about the number of bushes, how tall they are and how overgrown they’ve become. Google their company name to make sure they have good reviews online. His Workmanship offers professional hedge trimming services. Click here to get a free estimate.

Hear what a provider says

My name is Sam and this is my second summer picking up clients through the His Workmanship platform. I heard about this company from my friend who attends a Christian organization called Young Life. What I like most about this side hustle is that I can work outside with my friends. I’ve made a lot of money and it’s been a great opportunity to help various people in my community. This has definitely been the best summer gig I’ve had thus far in my life.
