“I heard about His Workmanship through a google search online and I’m so thankful that I did. Eric was quick to respond to my emails and got me on the schedule right away. I had a huge landscape project that ended up taking well over 100 hours of labor. Each of the crews showed up on time and worked very hard shoveling river rock. I would highly recommend His Workmanship.” – Candy

Sam and Silas came at the expected time and were very nice and respectful. We went around yard to see what needed to be done and were very knowledgeable about the jobs. They worked hard and even helped my husband with some yard work. They accomplished all jobs. We would love to have them back
Both Zac and Logan did a terrific job. I couldn't stay at the house while they worked but they took directions and accomplished exactly what I asked!! Great job!
Both teams I have had come this spring have worked very hard and were very personable. I only wish I could have been able to afford more help when it's time for planting!
The two young men were on time, polite, and great workers. They are returning to do more landscape work.
I highly would recommend His Workmanship for your next move. The mover’s are very conscientious friendly and respectful of your home and property.
The Guys were hard working and cheerful. Checked in with me to make sure I was happy with how things were going.
The workers arrived promptly & immediately began what I had hired them to do. They worked efficiently & cleaned up after they were done.
John & Logan did a great job, efficient and excellent work. It was a pleasure meeting them.
I am very satisfied with the work done on my garden. The crew was on time, very polite and professional and accomplished everything I had asked for, with the added bonus of making it look even nicer than I had expected. They cleaned everything up and left my yard looking fantastic! I would recommend that if you have established plants you want left that you specify that clearly with the crew.
The team of Matt and Bryant was wonderful. So very hard working and polite. They got everything done and did it well! I will be using His Workmanship again!
John and Logan showed up on time with tools to complete the job. They worked hard and completed the landscaping project with time to spare. Good communication and nice young men. Will use again.
The crew arrived right on time. They conscientiously worked for the five hours they were hired for..if they had questions they didn't hesitate to knock on the door and ask. It was a very pleasant work experience.
They did a beautiful job mulching my whole yard. Very nice people.
Thank you so much for Your Company. I was so impressed with the kindness both of these young men showed me.....KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK because we NEED more companies like yours out here.....God Bless
I was very pleased with the work that Jamison and Joey did for me at my church. They worked non-stop for the 3 hours, even after I suggested they take a 5-minute break. They were doing the hard work for me. I sure appreciated it and several noticed/mentioned how much better the flower beds looked. And it made it easier for me to plant flowers a few days later--6.5 hours of it. I will hire "His Workmanship" again when I need them.
The team hired was very polite and hard working and the results were impressive! Our neighbor immediately noticed the results and complimented their hard work. They tried to complete everything asked of them to do within the allotted timeframe they were hired for and we will hire again for future work.
The work crew arrived on time and worked hard the entire time to complete our project. They listened to what I asked be done and met our requests. We couldn’t have done better ourselves! I highly recommend the company. It’s worth the cost!
We were extremely happy with the beautiful gardening work done by the crew. They were very hard workers as well as friendly and professional. Eric responded quickly when I reached out. I especially appreciated their efforts as they came out on very short notice during a busy week for them. A+++
Arrived on time, professional, worked the entire time. Very pleasant and courteous
From start to finish this company met and exceeded my expectations. I plan to call them again for my next landscape job and would highly recommend them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some rock installation companies charge by the cubic yard and others charge by the hour. It generally takes 1 person 1 hour to install 1 cubic yard of rock. Hourly rates tend to be $50 – $70 per hour per laborer. So if, for example, you need 10 cubic yards of rock spread, then it’ll probably cost between $550 – $650. As for calculations, 1 cubic yard = 1.15 tons and 1 cubic yard = 27 square feet.
River rock is the most popular choice for landscape rock around houses and it also happens to be one of the cheapest options too. River rock is usually priced at anywhere between $60 – $80 per yard. Crushed granite and pea gravel are on the lower price end too, but they are not nearly as common.
Most residential properties have river rock that is 3/4 inch to 1 1/2 inches. River rock is smooth, polished, medium-sized and adds a decorative aspect to garden beds. Pea gravel is the smallest option coming in at only 3/8 inches. Given the tiny size, pea gravel is a great choice for a playground or pathway. Crushed granite is a good selection if you have hilly terrain since it drains very well and will prevent puddling.
If you’re installing a different kind of rock than you already have in place, you will need to remove the old rock before laying new rock. While it may be tempting to just put new rock over old rock, this would be a mistake. The reason is because landscape rock that’s too deep will spill over into your grass. Also, if there is foot traffic on the rocks, the walking may cause the older layer of rocks to be exposed and this would look bad.
Start by clearing the rocks of any leaves or branches. If you have landscape fabric underneath the rock, then you won’t need to replace that unless it is in very bad condition. You should be left with an area that only has a weed barrier laid down and pinned to the ground. Then you’ll be ready to install stones.
You will need a shovel to scoop up the rocks and a wheelbarrow to relocate the rocks to areas that need it. Since rocks are heavy, you should only fill the wheelbarrow up about halfway full. Dump the wheelbarrow of rocks in separate areas so there are multiple rock piles. Then use a metal rake to spread out the rock evenly.
You generally want to have a layer of rock that is roughly 2 inches thick. If you have less than that, the fabric will get exposed in some parts. If you have more than that, the rock may spill over the edging and into the grass. That said, when you order the landscape rock from a local supplier, you should err on the side of getting too much because it’s better to have rock too thick than too thin.
You should ask for a ballpark estimate on the total cost for your stone installation project. Be ready to share about how many tons of rock you ordered and how far the rock pile is from the landscape beds. Ask the rock installation service how long they’ve been doing it and what their process is like. Google their company name to make sure they have good reviews online. My name is Mike and this is my eighth summer since joining the His Workmanship network. I’ve been good friends with the owner ever since our college days. Our relationship has grown over the years and I felt very respected throughout the whole process. I can work when I want to work and I can take off however many days I need to rest. I would highly recommend for college students to get connected with the team at His Workmanship.
